Oak Creek Farms is holding their annual Oak Creek Farms Forage Tested Brangus Bull Sale at their sale facility at the ranch in Chappell Hill, Texas Saturday, October 29, 2011 with 130 Oak Creek Bulls – 60 Brangus – 60 Red Brangus – 5 Angus and 5 Red Angus. The sale will also be broadcast on the internet by Superior Livestock Auction. Following the bull sale, 150 source verified commercial heifers from Oak Creek’s Bull customers will sell.

Presale activities will begin Friday afternoon, October 28th at 5:30 p.m. with a seminar. Larry Pierce, with AgriLife Extension of Texas A&M, will give the introduction on “Developing Cattle on Forages.” Dr. Guillermo Scaglia, LSU AgCenter ruminant nutritionist will speak on forage utilization in cattle and evaluate the productivity of forage systems in the Gulf Coast region. The seminar will be followed by a steak dinner sponsored by Pfizer.

All events take place at Oak Creek Farms at the all weather Sale Facility on the Ranch in Chappell Hill, Texas. Oak Creek is located about sixty miles west of Houston on Hwy 290 and then south four miles on FM 1371. Ranch tours will also be available Friday to view the cattle in Oak Creek’s Brazos River bottom.

Oak Creek practices a conservative approach using their Total Herd Management Program in making breeding decisions to breed efficient cattle with desirable carcass traits that thrive on forages in a hot, humid environment. This year has truly been a test with the severe drought.

This is the eighth year DNA test results from Pfizer Animal Genetics have been used as a tool in breeding cattle to select genetics with desirable carcass traits and feed/forage efficiency. Bulls are also selected for good phenotype and performance plus fertility. All bulls will be fertility tested.
